CANANDAIGUA EMERGENCY SQUAD TO BE FIRST EMERGENCY SERVICES AGENCY IN THE WORLD WITH THE “CAMEL” BARIATRIC LIFT SYSTEM

CANANDAIGUA, NEW YORK – The Canandaigua Emergency Squad is pleased to announce the purchase of new equipment designed to assist responders in moving larger patients and to avoid injury to rescue workers. CES has purchased the Mangar “Emergency Lifting Kushion”, or ELK, and the Mangar “CAMEL”, to assist rescue workers in lifting larger and other special needs patients from falls or other illness or injury scenes, reducing the risk of injury to personnel that respond to their calls for assistance. Canandaigua Emergency Squad will be publicly presenting these two new specialized bariatric lifting devices during an Open House on Saturday, May 13, 2006, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, at the CES Headquarters at 233 North Pearl Street in the City of Canandaigua. The Open House will celebrate the start of National Emergency Medical Services Week, from May 13 to 20, 2006.

What makes this announcement of new emergency medical equipment different and so special to Canandaigua Emergency Squad and the greater Canandaigua public, is that CES is the first emergency services agency in the world to put into service the Mangar “Camel” bariatric lifting system.

On hand at the CES Open House will be Kathleen A. Dunning, OTR, founder of Oak Pointe Medical Products of Troy, Michigan (www.oakpointemedical.com), who assisted Canandaigua Emergency Squad in obtaining both Mangar bariatric lifting systems. Oak Pointe Medical Products is the exclusive distributor of the Mangar ELK, and first distributor of the CAMEL lifting systems in the United States. “Chief Ken Beers and the emergency responders from Canandaigua Emergency Squad should be commended for their proactive approach to preventing injury to both their personnel and the citizens they serve,” Ms. Dunning says. “Safe patient handling is a critical issue in the United States today and they had the foresight to implement state-of-the-art technology to protect the people who service their community.”

In addition to the presentation of the new bariatric lifting systems to the public, Canandaigua Emergency Squad will be taking delivery of two new 2006 PL Custom ambulances, to which the public can view both new vehicles during the Open House festivities. These two state-of-the-art ambulances will replace two other aging vehicles in the CES fleet, further showing the Squad’s commitment to providing modern, high-quality emergency medical services to the greater Canandaigua area.

The Canandaigua Emergency Squad Open House will also feature a Car Seat Inspection Check, sponsored by the Crystal Beach Fire Department and CES. Also scheduled are informational presentations from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Department and the New York State Police.

Canandaigua Emergency Squad, Inc.’s vision is to provide prehospital healthcare services and education in the communities we serve to reduce or mitigate the effects and impact of medical or traumatic emergencies.
